Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • describe and develop hydraulic engineering projects as multi-purpose projects
  • determine constructive solutions for hydraulic engineering systems
  • analyze special features in hydraulic engineering

Subject of course

In addition to the in-depth basics, the following specialist areas are dealt with, based on examples from Austria and abroad: surge chambers, pressure tunnels and pressure shafts as well as pressure pipelines including pressure surge calculations; constructive solution of high head and low head power houses; shot channels, spillways and bottom outlets; cavitation; Pump storage systems, weir systems and closures as well as ice problems and ice defense; Maintenance and modernization of plants.

Teaching methods

Learning the basics through lecture and self-study and discussion of practical examples.
