Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to discuss and reflect various positions and approaches in the debates and discourses on housing and residential living. The course invites participate to actively take part in these debates.

Subject of course

 Housing Talks is a series of public talks with various guests on historic, contemporary and prospective aspects of residential living and urban housing. Topics vary with the guests and reaches from architecture to alternative approaches in city-making, to theoretical reflection of the built environment or artistic practices. The talk by the guest is followed by an open and public discussion.

Teaching methods

After a short introduction into the topic, guests present their positions in the context of housing and residential living in an open Q&A

Examination modalities

for succsessful completion, participats write a text reflecting of 6.000-7.000 characters on a specific topic that will be announced once all events have taken place. the text will require reflection of the talks as well as own research. the text needs to be uploaded via TUWEL.

for receiving grades in the course we ask you to follow the procedure listed below: 

1. Register for an exam (chose amongst dates) via TISS. 

2. you will receive an e-mail with two questions/topics on the day of the exam.  

3. Chose one (!) topic and write a text (7-8.000 char.) to be handed in within 14 days. 

4. the text should contain a) the answer of the question of the exam b) a personal discussion of the topic; if possible and necessary, provide references and sources for the discussion

5. Do not forget to write your name, your student number and the chosen topic in the header. 

6. Upload a pdf of your text on TUWEL in the respective folder within 14 (!) days. name the file as follows: Wohngespräche_WS21_studentnumber_Name. 

the texts will be graded according the following criteria:  

answer of question, discussion of the topic, argument, discussion of the architectural, the urbanistic and social dimension; use of sources, 

text may be written in german or english.
