Leitbild (Deutsch)
The Research Division "Distributed Systems" focuses on foundational as well as novel engineering approaches for designing, managing, and deploying large-scale distributed complex systems. Those systems are composed of three essential and interacting building blocks:
(a) Software services, (b) People, and (c) Things, in the sense of "Internet of Things". We treat those large-scale distributed systems as ecosystems, which need to be robust and resilient and as such we focus on the mechanisms for ensuring those properties. The paradigms we focus on in our research include (1) Elastic Computing, (2) Social Computing, and (3) Osmotic Computing. The hybrid deployment architectures we focus on are based on Cloud Computing and distributed Edge Computing infrastructures.
