Leitbild (Deutsch)
Electrochemistry primarily deals with the interaction of electrical current or voltage and chemical reactions or material modifications, etc. Important examples of electrochemical cells or electrochemical phenomena are fuel cells, batteries, electroplating, corrosion, electrolysis, ion transport or electrode polarization. Hence, electrochemistry is one of the highly topical key disciplines in chemistry having enormeous importance in sustainable energy technology (energy storage and conversion) and materials technology. Interdisciplinarity is one of its main characteristics with links to most other fields of chemistry such as inorganic, organic, analytical and physical chemistry as well as to physics, materials science and electrical engineering. The research activities of the Electrochemistry Division at the Institute of Chemical Technologies and Analytics cover many different aspects of the field: Both aqueous electrochemical cells and solid state electrochemical systems (solid state ionics) are under investigation.
