After successful completion of the course, students are able to visualize electromagnetic centimeter- and millimeter waves on transmission lines and in free space and are able to select a suitable transmission line, components, and antennas for centimeter- and millimeter waves. Finally, the students are familiar with systems engineering, problems and natural limits in this field.
These practical aspects broaden the content of Chapters 10, 11, 12 and 13 of the course VU Wave Propagation.
In the lecture part, the foundations are laid down. In the practical part, which is organised and carried out jointly with the radio amateur club of the TU Wien, a 24 GHz transceiver is built in a small group and tested. Experiments about propagation in free space over 10 km link distance under LOS and NLOS conditions (and beyond), standing waves and diffraction phenomena are carried out.
Preliminary discussion for this course and several other courses of the institute of telecommunications: Thursday, 7th of March 2024, 2.00 - 3.00 pm, seminar room SEM389-2 (Room No. CG 0402)
This course consists of three lectures and a practical part which is organised as student group work.
The lectures are scheduled as follows:
1st lecture (2 hrs): Wed. 10.04.2024 at 3pm-5pm in seminar room 389-2 (CG0402) - Propagation effects.
2nd lecture (2 hrs): Tue. 23.04. 2024 at 8:30am-10am in seminar room 389-2 (CG0402) - Antennas for such wavelengths.
3rd lecture (2 hrs): Thu. 25.4. 2024 at 10am-12pm in seminar room 389-2 (CG0402) - System aspects.
The group's lab report is evaluated
Successful completion of the exam "Wave Propagation" (course no. 389.064) is required (or equivalent).
The student must have at least 1 of the course(s) completed listed below:
