The topic of this semester deals with the historic fortress of Amasra, a town on the Black Sea coast of Turkey, in context with an UNESCO World Heritage application.
The Byzantine and Genoese Fortress in Amasra at the Black Sea coast of Turkey is in focus of our studies regarding its architectural, urban and landscape characteristics and values for sustainable preservation and future use. Currently the fortress and its surrounding is on the tentative list to be an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Due to the advantageous position with two natural harbors, Amasra is known from antiquity as an important site. Today, the charming location is a destination for mostly national visitors, but Amasra attracts foreign tourists, too.
