Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to

  • use the OpenTrack software to simulate railway operations
  • use the FBS software to create timetables
  • compare different operating concepts and justify which one achieves the objectives better
  • reproduce the content of thematically relevant scientific articles
  • critically scrutinise scientific articles

Subject of course

Introduction in computer-aided solving of questions of railway-operations.

Teaching methods

Mandatory introductory lecture for all seminar participants. If participation in the introductory lecture is not possible, participation in the seminar will be refused.

Different dates are available for the seminar day. The seminar day takes place in the offices of the Research Department for Railways, Transport Economics and Ropeways.

Examination modalities

The assessment consists of four parts, each of which counts for 25% of the overall grade:

  • Completion of exercises with OpenTrack (on site)
  • Elaboration of a project with FBS (at home)
  • Presentation of the FBS project
  • Guided discussion of two scientific articles to be read individually

All parts can be repeated. Repeat dates are agreed individually between lecturers and students and take place in the same semester as the course.

Attendance is compulsory.
