Aim of course

In the transport sciences, a person interacts with active and passive measures that are a part of his/her environment. There are circular feedbacks that could be employed to describe the basic elements and their interrelationships as applied to transport planning and civil engineering. Transport is a part of our ecological system, the economic system, the social system and the legal system. It therefore is necessary for future civil engineers and transport planners to know the various relationships in the transport field and the consequences that they cause in a society. With the use of technically sound planning measures, the engineer and/or planner needs to dedicate their capabilities to focus on the consequences from these planning measures and how they increasingly affect the course of a planning process. Participants of this lecture will learn how to recognize the various systems of development. This lecture will display and give understanding of the various legal processes, as well as the methods of analysis, choosing the proper methods for a particular solution, and administrating of legal requirements. The course should enable the students to simple use of planning instruments and calculations in transport planning.

Subject of course

Elements of the transport sciences: Properties and capabilities of traffic participants and their behavior. Development, specifications, properties and the following consequences. Planning for pedestrians, cyclists and car traffic; Planning and project evaluation of (inner-city) streets and roads; Planning for building measures for traffic calming, building of street structures. Relations to life forms, the plant world, legal use by communities of material resources, traffic safety, layout of transport infrastructure. Integration of transport infrastructure into the environment.
There are two programs that will be assigned as part of this exercise: 1. Personal travel diary (travelogue); 2. Redesign of a particular street area and making it more accommodating for pedestrians and public transport

Examination modalities

schriftlich.
