Concept (German) Das Institut für Thermodynamik und Energiewandlung betreut in Lehre und Forschung neben dem Gebiet der angewandten Thermodynamik und thermischen Turbomaschinen auch noch Dampferzeugerbau, Reaktorbau, wärmetechnische Anlagen, thermische Energieanlagen, alternative und fortschrittliche Energien, Modellierung und Simulation wärmetechnischer Prozeße sowie Heizung, Klimatisierung und Lüftung. Besondere Arbeitsschwerpunkte liegen in der Computersimulation wärmetechnischer Vorgänge sowie der numerischen Strömungsberechnung in thermischen Turbomaschinen. Für experimentelle Untersuchungen an einschlägigen Komponenten oder Modellen stehen im Labor eine komplette Hochdruckdampferzeugeranlage sowie ein Schaufelgitterwindkanal zur Verfügung.
Ein Versuchsstand zur Messung des Wärmeüberganges an quer angeströmten Rohrbündeln (auch Rippenrohrbündel) steht ebenfalls in Betrieb. Eine Versuchsanlage für Untersuchungen über Wärmeübergang und Feststoffzirkulation an einer atmosphärischen zirkulierenden Wirbelschicht ist in Betrieb. Eine Anlage zur druckaufgeladenen zirkulierenden Wirbelschicht sowie eine direkt biomassegefeuerte Gasturbinenanlage sind momentan in der Phase der Inbetriebnahme.

Concept (English) The activities of the institute for Thermodynamics and Energy Conversion covers a broad spectrum such as steam-boilers, thermal turbomachines, thermal behaviour of thermal power plants, nuclear reactors, domestic heating, refrigeration, air conditioning and heatpumps. Special points of interest are computer aided simulations of thermal processes and the fluid flow in components of thermal turbomachines. Our experimental facilities comprise a high pressure, high temperature steam boiler, a cascade wind tunnel, a heat exchanger test rig for bare or finned tube bundes and a circulating fluidized bed for flow and heat transfer investigations. Experimental facilities for a pressurized circulating fluidized bed and a directly biomass-fired gas turbine are in the phase of initial operation.
