The project aims to test out the productisation of Whiscers in a number of different EU countries, i.e. to scale up the product to enable it to be rolled out to mass market. It is proposed that the concept be franchised to organisations that work in markets that United House is not familiar with. In particular, 75% of solid walled properties are in the private sector, where United House could franchise the product to energy suppliers or retailers in order to gain their marketing reach into this sector. The Whiscers system is the combination of the laser measurement of the walls coupled with the off site computer controlled cutting of the insulation boards. An EU wide patent has been granted for the Whiscers process. Areas that we wish to test under the project are as follows; 1) measurement of the walls. Should we use Laser measurement or can we use digital photography. Laser measurement is probably more accurate, however digital photography is potentially cheaper and quicker, the issue is the one of perspective when taking the photos. 2) software system for converting digital measurement/picture into a form that can be interpreted by the computer controlled cutting device. 3) cutting system; confirm that a router is the best method of cutting the panel 4) labelling system; we need to ensure that panels go to site fully labelled up so that the site operatives know what order to fit them in 5) standard system for extending sockets, wall lights, light switches, moving radiators, skirting boards, etc We have brought in Camden Council as a local authority partner who would give us access to a large number of UK homes where Whiscers could be trialled.
