Polymer Flooding in Oil Production
15.03.2011 - 15.07.2011
Assigned research project
The aim of this project is the development of a qualitative and quantitative analytical method for the determination of polymer solutions as used for polymer flooding to enhance oil field recoveries. The applicability of aqueous size exclusion chromatography (SEC) will be investigated for this purpose. It is expected that SEC provides information on both the conentration and the molecular weight distribution of the used polymers. The influence of various factors like the high salt content of the samples on the qualitative and quantitative response will be investigated. Laboratory measurements by SEC will be compared with simpler wet chemical methods (e.g. turbidity measurements or the iodide method) which potentially allow also a measurement of the polymer concentration in the field.
