Self-consistent simulation of plasma scenarios for ITER
01.01.2011 - 29.02.2012
Research funding project
JINTRAC is a suite of integrated transport codes accessible via the JET application management system JAMS. Recently, the free-boundary equilibrium code CREATE-NL has been integrated into the JINTRAC code environment. It calculates the evolution of the magnetic structure and the plasma shape considering coil current feedback control. The plasma equilibrium is determined by solution of the Grad-Shafranov equation applying an iterative first order FEM scheme. Correction coil currents are derived from linearised models for the plasma target configurations under consideration. The influence of eddy currents can optionally be taken into account. The coupling between CREATE-NL and JINTRAC has already been applied in simulations of the current ramp-up phase, L-H and H-L transition phases and the flat-top phase with fully developed ETB and edge currents for the ITER reference scenario 2, and benchmarked against similar runs that were performed with the CORSICA code. In close collaboration with experts from CCFE and CREATE, cases 1-6 related to the ITER reference Dcenario 2 as specified in the task description will be analysed in detail using JINTRAC stand-alone simulations in a first preparative approach, followed by fully coupled runs with JINTRAC+CREATE-NL.
