Neighborhood Calling Enhancement of social Interaction, networking and mobility for elderly people in the neighborhood through complementary information and communication technology (ICT) resources and services by local businesses Communication and social networking in the neighborhood Additional supervision and innovative commercial services are used to enhance the value and acceptance of already developed and new information and communication technologies for elderly people within the context of a neighborhood. Interdisciplinary approach will be used in order to evaluate existing ICT resources and identify their shortcomings. The potential to use ICT for social interaction, networking and as a mobility enhancement strategy for elderly people will also be researched. The main goal of research is to improve the possibilities for autonomous living elderly people, to achieve empowerment through self help but also to make neighborhoods more attractive and livable through new and innovative services by local shops. Interdisciplinary and integral approach The research project is based upon an interdisciplinary and integral approach, each of the partners has a special competence and focus of research. The four disciplines are: Information and communication technology, housing research health research and urban renewal. Methodical approach: Existing ICT resources and products, present use and the prospective for further services for elderly people as well the potential within the neighborhood and local shops will be investigated in the course of the research. Communication structures between the housing unit and the neighborhood with its traditional and established local shops as well as health providers will be documented. Traditional methods of urban renewal will be used and adapted. Workshops are planned with the goal to involve end-users and stakeholders (health providers, owners of local shops etc.) in the development of new products and services. Goals and outcome: The goal of the project is to empower elderly people within the neighborhood with the help of ICT products and services. The technology is implemented in order to enable elder citizens to interact, take part in democratic processes of the community, form social networks. Through additional and innovative services of the local economy, local shops and businesses should thus achieve new and sustainable markets and at the same time stimulate and attractive the neighborhood. The four disciplines deliver basic knowledge and innovative concepts for ICT supported networks and new services for ICT (such as maintenance and instruction/training).
