Opto-electronic circuit boards - 7
19.04.2010 - 31.08.2012
Assigned research project
We investigate integrated optical interconnecs on printed circuit boards (PCBs) with respect to data transmission properties in the Gbit/s range. With this concept, light guidance between the electro-optic devices occurs within a thin layer of a polymer carrying an optical waveguide. One of our tasks consists in selecting and characterizing proper lasers and driving chips, as well as of photodiodes and following trans-impedance amplifiers. We further design the microstrip lines that carry the electrical input signals. Also, we experimentally determine the transmission quality of signals at data rates up to 10 Gbit/s.
