This study analyses econonomic and housing policy effects of two policy instruments in Austria, "Wohnbauförderung" (housing subsidies) and "Mietrecht" (rent law). The first part of the study deals with revenues and expenditures of housing subsidies in Austria, and estimates the effects of a cut-back of these subsidies on new housing construction, on GDP and on employment. The second part of the study addresses the development and determinants of housing prices in Austria. In particular, the role of the above mentioned policy instruments in this context has been studies.
