IEA Bioenergy, Task 40: Sustainable International Bioenergy Trade - Securing Supply and Demand

01.01.2010 - 31.12.2012
Assigned research project
The core objective of IEA Bioenergy Task 40 is to support the development of sustainable international bioenergy markets. This Project aims to provide a vital contribution to the work of Task 40. The main objectives of this project are to get and provide high quality information and analyses about bioenergy trade in Austria, to provide and document overviews of the developments in Austria, to monitor the impacts and effects of certification of sustainability on the Austrian bioenergy markets and the international trade of bioenergy commodities, to participate in the Task 40 meetings and in international Workshops and to be a linking pin between different stakeholders by organising workshops and by targeted dissemination activities. To achieve the above given targets the following steps are taken: At first the existing database about the use of bioenergy and the import and export activities with bioenergy products in Austria will be updated and analysed and documented. This work will result in an updated country report for Austria with background information on the bioenergy system in Austria, with a description of policies, with data on traded biomass and with information on drivers and barriers for biomass trade specific to Austria. Another step will be the monitoring of the impacts and effects of certification of sustainability on the Austrian bioenergy system and the trade with bioenergy products. The participation in Task 40 allows us to have a closer look on the international development and to benefit from the experience of Task 40. Task 40 is organised very flexible which allows to be responsive to actual developments. Therefore Task 40 is doing works and reports on current issues. With this project we will contribute to these activities as far as possible. Another aim is to support the collaboration of national and international stakeholders such as policy makers, industry, producers and suppliers of biomass for energy, NGO¿s and the scientific community by attending the internal Task 40 meetings and the related workshops, by organising workshops and a Task 40 meeting in Austria and by the dissemination of the results.
