Micromagnetic Simulationen and Computational Design
01.04.2010 - 31.12.2013
Research funding project
There is an essential need for the deeper understanding of magnetic nanostructures to improve current and develop future magnetic devices. Besides magnetic recording and permanent magnets for energy efficient motors and generators, two new application areas are emerging: (1) The generation of microwave fields using nano-osciallators. (2) The use of magneto-elastic materials for wireless sensor applications. Both make use of dynamic magnetization processes, diffferent form data-storage. Since the fabrication of prototypes is both time and money consuming, the increasing computer power provides an improving means for the computational prediction and design of such devices. For both applications, the fundamental physics can be described with an augmented Lindau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation (LLG). For an accurate simulation of spin-torque driven osciallators, the LLG equation is combined with a diffusion equation for the polarized charge carriers.
