Energy storage of renewable energies - key technology for future energy systems
01.01.2010 - 30.09.2011
Research funding project
The storage of renewable energy is important for economical and efficient use. Since the supply of renewable energy can fluctuate hourly (e.g. wind energy), daily (e.g. solar energy) and seasonally (e.g. hydro energy), energy storage is required to match the also fluctuating demand in the energy market. Different energy storage options will be evaluated according to technical, ecological and economical criteria to show the required scientific and technological development needs. The implementation of future demand of fluctuating renewable energy using different energy storage options will be evaluated. The possibilities for the storage of energy for the mobile use and the possibility of ¿vehicle to grid¿ to provide power to the electric system will also be analysed. The future application of the different energy storage options will be identified. The future demand of fluctuating renewable energy will be evaluated and incorporated into an analysis model. Technical and economical boundary conditions for efficient use and integration of the energy storage options will be developed.
