ClimateMobil - Mobility management and climate change in regions
01.09.2009 - 31.03.2012
Research funding project
Mobility is one of the essential keys for meeting the targets of national and international climate protection. At the same time mobility increased CO2 emissions over the last decades substantially. Without rethinking mobility other measures for saving energy, i.e. concerning industry and private households, will not be sufficient. A far-reaching management of mobility with a range of methods for controlling and steering seems appropriate to face this challenge. This covers measures for attractive public transport as well as raising efficiency in motorised individual transport. Mobility, climate and energy are interrelated issues, all including a spatial and regional perspective. The Klima- und Energiefonds (climate and energy fund) underlines the importance of spatial differentiation in these fields. At present so-called energy regions in Austria exist on different spatial scales, using different approaches, mainly excluding the issue of mobility. ¿ClimateMOBIL ¿ mobility management and climate protection in regions¿ wants to combine the issue of mobility with climate protection and energy as a new approach. The project is not a theoretical one, but aims to implement pilot regions in Austria. Offering know-how transfer between regions during several workshops plays a major role in creating an additional benefit and overcoming the previous isolated point of view. Especially rural areas with decentralised structures can benefit from mobility management due to the dependence on certain modes of traffic.
