Durability of Sustainable Natural Fibre Cementitious Composites in Alpine Regions

01.01.2016 - 30.09.2019
Research funding project

The objective of the proposed research cooperation is the further development of new generation cementitious composites based on sustainable use of locally available, renewable resources in Austria and Slovenia as well as the improvement of their durability in the mountain areas (particularly Alpine regions) of these countries. The aim is to reduce the use of non-renewable raw material resources in cementitious composites such as petroleum-derived raw materials, limestone, gravel, sand or steel, and simultaneously to intensify the use of renewable locally available resources such as materials from the waste stream of industrial manufacturing processes and from agriculture. In accordance to this, the traditional steel- or synthetic fibre reinforcement will be replaced with natural plant fibres, such as hemp, jute, etc.
