MCL SP19 Modelling and simulation of simultaneous diffusion and precipitation in heterogeneous materials during surface treatment
01.01.2008 - 30.06.2011
Research funding project
The activities in this project shall provide a sound theoretical and experimental basis for material development activities in the field of surface/interface and bulk precipitation in complex materials and the effects of precipitates on the material properties. The goals of the project are: ¿ Adaptation of the numerical methods (based on the software MatCalc) for predicting precipitation from solid solutions and development of new methodologies for taking into account simultaneous long-range diffusion processes. ¿ Efficient characterisation of grain boundary precipitates with a special focus on high alloyed tool steels and aluminium alloys. ¿ Development of methods for characterisation of nanosized and microsized precipitates in surface treated specimens.
