Resveratrol in shoots, stems, leaves and roots from Vitis vinifera
01.01.2009 - 31.12.2009
Global individual project
Resveratrol is a phytoalexine present in vines, peanuts and japanese knotweed. The impact of this hydroxystilbene is widespread where antibacterial, fungicide, antitumor and cardioprotective effects, to name just a few, have been researched. This molecule together with its glycoside, called piceid, was in the centre of interest for many years due to its presumed healthy aspects. Especially in China hundreds of research results have been published recently. Prices are high at around 1000¿ per gram and new sources would be attractive, particularly sources which can be used in a biocascading principle. While farming a vineyard the plant itself is not likely to be used a lot these days, leaves, shoots, stems and roots could be one more possibility to gain higher value of every acre of the yard. It is the goal of the project to develop methods for quantitative analysis in these parts of the plant and check the changes all over the growing period.
