Nuclear Fusion KKKÖ
01.01.2009 - 30.03.2010
Research funding project
Numerical codes are nowadays available to model the behavior of the boundary of fusion plasmas and the plasma wall interaction. These codes are based on our knowledge on heat and particle loads and re-emission, various surface processes (physical and chemical sputtering, electron emission and reflection, etc.) and transport processes. However, there are large uncertainties in the present day predictions due to the lack of detailed knowledge about the involved processes. We therefore propose to study the interaction of ions with fusion relevant surfaces, in particular processes of ion - induced electron emission and sputtering/erosion, and investigate their importance for a successful modeling of the plasma boundary and plasma-wall-interaction
