The project aims at applying a previously (at TU Wien) developed resource classification framework to old landfills in the Belgium region of Flanders. Therefore, case studies are selected in cooperation with OVAM Openbare Vlaamse Afvalstoffenmaatschappij and then evaluated with respect to ecological and economic criteria. Based on this evaluation, particularly promising old landfills (from a resource vs. reserve perspective) are identified. Subsequently, these sites should be targeted by efforts for enhanced landfill mining on the regional level.
