In vitro testing of a potential chemical trap of OH-radicals and ferryl species

Research funding project
Reactive oxygen species play a crucial role in many neurodegenerative diseases and aging, but until now no satisfying method to quantify them in vivo could be developed. In this work we plan a detailed chemical investigation of a potential candidate for a new standard to measure hydroxyl radicals and ferryl (Fe(IV)) species under conditions as close as possible to physiological. After finishing the in vitro investigation, the standard will be tested in vivo in the laboratories of our collaborators.
