Precipitation strengthening and hydrogen induced stress corrosion cracking of martensitic Cr-steel sheets

01.08.2007 - 31.03.2011
Research funding project
Martensitic Cr-steel sheets shall provide high strength combined with appropriate ductility and high corrosion resistance. The strengthening of this type of steel is achieved by the martensitic structure and by precipitation hardening. On the other hand, a high yield strength increases the sensitivity to stress corrosion cracking. Sheet material of X5CrNiCuNb17-4 is investigated to propose a good compromise between high strength and high corrosion resistance by adjusting the heat treatment properly.
