Training of Institutions in Modern Environmental Approaches and Technologies

Education and academia management project
The project duration was September 1, 2007 - January 31, 2010. The project consortium included 11 partner institutions from Serbia and 4 partner institutions from the European Union. The project was approved and funded by the European Commission in the framework of the Tempus programme. The project grantholder was Vienna University of Technology, Austria. The total project costs amounted to 293521 Euro including the project grant of 278845 Euro. Project objectives: - To enhance the existing system of continuing engineering education in Serbia; - To develop advanced, practically oriented continuing education courses in the European environmental directives and standards, waste management, and advanced environmental technologies; - To train professionals from Serbian institutions and enterprises in European environmental directives and standards, waste management, and advanced environmental technologies. Project outcomes: - Organised joint events aimed at the exchange of know-how and development of curricula and courses; - Established "Platform for continuing education in environmental management and technologies (PCE)" at University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Technical Sciences; - Developed database with more than 220 contact addresses of potential course participants; - Purchased and installed equipment and software for teaching, laboratory work and office work; - Developed six pilot courses: 1. Eco Management (ISO 14000), 2. Eco-Design and Sustainable Development in Mechanical Engineering, 3. Sustainable Waste Management, 4. End-of-Life Products Disassembly and Recycling, 5. Environmental Labelling of Products, 6. Pollution of the environment, pollutants and their elimination. - Developed and printed teaching and supporting materials for the above mentioned six courses; - The above mentioned six courses were organised, 123 participants from 22 Serbian institutions and enterprises have been trained. - Developed, printed and disseminated marketing materials (information leaflets on the project and six developed courses). - Developed project web site (http://timea.uns.ac.rs).
