Clean Energy Pathways 2020 for Sustainable Mobility

The Austrian Automotive Industry has been a major player in alternative propulsion system devel-opment, has already developed outstanding solutions and is permanently working towards a higher market penetration of these systems. From the viewpoint of the customers the desire for clean, al-ternative propulsion systems is steadily increasing because of emission measurement values ex-ceeding limits in road near measurement sites and seemingly impossible Kyoto targets; this is valid for key accounts as well as public entities and private customers. However the development of al-ternative propulsion systems is strongly interlinked with the energy supply and the treatment of new energy carriers as there are CNG, biofuels and hydrogen. These gaseous energy carriers also demand new storage technologies. Furthermore the long term performance on these propulsion sys-tems has not been analysed yet. The project Clean Energy Pathways 2020 combines efforts of the automotive industry and mayor energy suppliers and key accounts within the European and transat-lantic scientific research and industry to jointly proceed to new propulsion systems on basis of the gaseous energy carriers.
