e-Photon/ONe+ Optical Networks: Towards Bandwidth Manageability and Cost Efficiency

01.03.2006 - 29.02.2008
Research funding project
The Network of Excellence (NoE) e-Photon/ONe+ focuses on the ¿Broadband for All¿ strategic objective of the IST 4th call, targeting network-oriented and system-oriented aspects of the optically enabled broadband. It builds upon existing coordination activities among universities and research centers active in optical networking and transmission. The essential technical goal of e-Photon/ONe+ is to point out the advantages offered by optical technologies to telecommunication networks and customer empowered grids with respect to electronic technologies, as well as the potential of both incrementally evolving and new optical technologies, which are also characterized as disruptive technologies due to their novelty and due to the expected impact and risk of their introduction. This NoE covers the technical areas of in-building, access, metro and core telecom networks, and will direct and structure the research on network architectures, technologies and protocols.
