ADLIS - SFB - Nanoscale growth for photonic applications

01.04.2006 - 31.03.2011
Forschungsförderungsprojekt
P6 is devoted to the realization of novel semiconductor-based photonic devices. The growth and processing techniques developed and improved in the preceding project periods of ADLIS produced 2nd generation quantum cascade lasers in the mid-IR wavelength range as well as state of the art THz lasers. Exploiting the full potential of QCLs requires new material combinations as well as enhanced cavity structures. This includes the improvement of DFB structures into smart DFBs with single lobed far fields, the combination of vertical and lateral coupling scenarios (far field shaping), and the utilization of 2D photonic crystal structures. Photonic crystals will be used to achieve phase matching in nonlinear light generating QCLs. The growth of zero-dimensional nanostructures (dots) and ensembles of nanostructures (ordering, stacking) and the combination of 2D and 0D structures (QWs and QDs) will be continued in collaboration with other ADLIS groups. In addition to the QCL and QD activities this project will support ADLIS groups with III-V MBE layers as well as processed samples.
