Protection in smart grid environment
- Adoption of the protection functions to the new requirements of the smart grid, i.e. consideration/assessment of the network status and grid configuration and automatically influencing the protection functions and settings accordingly, in order to avoid over- and underfunction of the protection devices and maintain selectivity of the protection scheme for all relevant operation modes in the smart grid environment (micro grids connected to the grid or operated in island mode).
- Additional supervision of a micro grid, i.e. coordination of the protection functions and settings with the overall supervision and control of a micro grid, which can be operated both connected to the overall grid or in island mode, based on either a robust and scalable peer-to-peer approach between the protection devices or an external micro grid manager application.
