Exhaust Diffusers in Gas Turbine Power Plants with Heat Recovery Steam Generator

01.01.2006 - 16.11.2006
Research funding project
An exhaust diffuser is arranged in a combined cycle power plant between the gas turbine and the heat recovery steam generator. A small footprint of the power plant results in short diffusers with large opening angles. As a result of this diffuser geometry, separated flow and even unsteady fluctuations can appear. The performance of the diffuser can be improved by the arrangement of so-called splitter plates. In a diploma thesis, computational fluid dynamics will be used to improve an existing design system for gas turbine exhaust diffusres with splitter plates based on the hydraulic diameters.
