The CEOS CalValPortal is a widely accepted web resource for information and data on calibration and validation activities around space-borne sensors. Although the main focus is on the infrared and visible optical sensors (IVOS), other sensor classes (active and passive microwave instruments) are covered meanwhile as well.
During the last contract period, the CalValPortal has been operated successfully using a Content Management System ([REF-1]). Using a CMS has been a major achievement in implementing a living web-portal, allowing remote editing and authoring and offering a plug-in mechanism for software extensions using the portlet specification. The integration of software tools originating from other projects like OLIVE into the portal demonstrates that the ability of the portal to be extensible in functionality actually works.
A central part of task I of the SoW focuses on the continuation of the web-service, the maintenance and the monitoring tasks associated with providing a web-portal. A major work package will be covering the renovation of the portal, consisting of updating the portal software, updating of the dependent third party software modules like the database management system and, finally, a harmonisation of the look-and-feel of the CalValPortal with other ESA portals.
A step towards the initial idea of the CalValPortal to serve as meta-search engine that can access a number of remote catalogues will be made by the integration of a DCIO compatible interface to exchange metadata with EVDC.
Support will be given by Brockmann Consult to issues that may arise from tasks that evolve from actual requirements or recent campaigns to publish data or information. This includes the publication or integration of new sensor data as well as technical support needed during content management tasks.
