The aim of this project is the model driven service architecture in the shop floor domain, whereas UML models are not only the starting point for initial architecture design, but also for continuous process redesign. Thus the project splits into several subprojects: 1) Modeling: We elaborated a methodology how to support fast shop floor modeling of a given shop floor in UML and call it the ¿ShopFloorToolBox¿. This model should be platform independent, with a strong focus on services offered by typical service providers (ERP, SFDC, Tool Management, scheduler etc.) and the connectivity between them. The ISA S95 standard is a guideline concerning functionality and data exchange within the production environment. Static and dynamic views are available; the latter are process designs which can be transferred into process specifications, at the moment we are focused on BPEL4WS. The MDA (model driven architecture) proposal gives the theoretical support. 2) SOA: Within our modelling tool we try to establish at a generic level a repository of typical services and service flows, because we believe that certain core service flows are very similar in typical shop floor groups. At the moment we are more focused on job-shop scenarios. Within the model we follow one main paradigm: we clearly distinct between platform independent and platform specific model. The first means, created architectures make no assumptions about the final realization e.g. we follow a role based approach were message contents are not specified in more detail. Thus these architectures can be implemented with different service providers (human or IS) and technologies. 3) Implementation: For testing and evaluation of our methodology, more important for hands-on model and process lifecycle management (which we already considered in theory as a cascade of control loops) experiences we want to build up a demo scenario with a number of service providers and some basic processes out of our ¿ShopFloorToolBox¿. The programming of the WebServices, either as wrapper services or if necessary from the scratch is still in process. The integration of an UDDI repository is planned too. The technology platform we have chosen is WebServices/XML, the vendor platform is MS .NET, although for WS-Composition we consider BPEL4WS in conjunction with IBM¿s BPWS4J runtime or just MS BizTalk server. WebService programming will be done exclusively under .NET. In this scenario, beneath self developed applications like SFDC or a Cell-Integrator (integration tool for NC-machines), the scheduling tool Preactor 9.0 APS shall play a major role.
