The project aims to develop a robust and reliable, marketable innovative biomass based CHP system for small and medium ranges (<10 MW rated thermal capacity), which can be operated with baled biomass, under consideration of an optimum of the total process, from planting the biomass up to the distribution of heat. Additionally, the preconditions for the installation of a new steam cycle will be elaborated, which will be an important contribution for scaling up the combustion system and enabling higher efficiency of electric power production with biomass in the future. The heart of the biomass utilisation system is a new biomass combustor, with a simple formed combustion chamber without any fireclay. This combustor offers the possibility to burn the biomass bales without any disintegration. The connected steam cycle is equipped with a steam engine with an electric capacity of 260 up to 300 kW and the waste heat will be used in a district heating network.
