Technical Evaluation of the EGMS Reliability Index for Ground Motion Assessment

01.05.2026 - 31.07.2026
Research funding project

MonitoringAT is a project that aims to monitor ground movement in alpine regions to better understand landslide hazards and protect infrastructure. Satellite radar data provide valuable information over large areas, but the measurements are not always equally reliable. In Tyrol, a reliability index has been developed to help assess the quality of these satellite observations.

This project will evaluate that index using four test sites where InSAR and direct ground survey data are available. By comparing satellite-based measurements with field observations, the study will assess how well the index captures actual slope deformation. It will also compare two InSAR data sources, EGMS and Tre Altamira.

The project will provide an independent technical assessment of the current method, identify its strengths and limitations, and highlight where future improvements could benefit ground-motion and hazard assessment in alpine terrain.
