Inspiring new doctorate candidates to empower the production of interconvertIble and optimized zinc-based batteries and supercapacitors

01.10.2025 - 30.09.2029
Research funding project

The project will build a doctorante network fo 15 DCs to perform the following tasks:

- Extract wood-based materials (lignin, cellulose) and repurpose them for battery and supercapacitor components.

- Develop zinc-air battery components:

3D-printed zinc anodes using cellulose matrices.

Wood-based gel electrolytes.

Wood-based air cathodes.

- Develop supercapacitors using recycled zinc-battery materials and gel electrolytes.

- Interconvert materials between batteries and supercapacitors for recycling.

- Operando techniques and overall performance

- Use 3D printing to manufacture all components with precision and reduce material waste.

- Implement digital twins and numerical strategies to optimize battery/supercapacitor design and recycling.

- SSbd analysis and collect all data in an interoperable data management system.

- Ensure grid connection

- Ensure applicability in maritime environments, focusing on flexibility, temperature tolerance, and energy density.
