Vision Our common vision builds from the shared experience of the main and associated partners on the difficulties to find suitable data engineers to lead the future innovative and research AI projects in Europe.
The DEAI programme aims at becoming a world-wide reference in the development of knowledge, talent and leadership in Data Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, for solving the current lack of advanced DE knowledge to cope with the lack of productivity in complex and large AI projects and boost Europe’s competitiveness in front of the US and China in the AI field.
Degrees The programme relies on the following nationally accredited degrees in computer science in- cluded in the catalogue of the partner HEIs: (1) ULB: Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineer- ing, (2) UPC: Master Erasmus Mundus in Data Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, (3) TUW: Diplom- Ingenieur/Ingenieurin, (4) UniPD: Laurea Magistrale in Data Science (LM-91), and (5) UCBL: Master Data and Intelligence for Smart Systems
The DEAI programme will deliver to the graduates a joint degree delivered by ULB, UPC, and one among TUW and UCBL, depending on the mobility path. For the students following the other mobility path, the programme will deliver to the graduates three degrees from ULB, UPC, and UniPD. The consortium is working on the necessary steps aiming at providing a joint degree to the students of this mobility path.
Student mobility Figure 1 shows the programme structure, each semester being 30 ECTS.
In the first two semesters, students acquire fundamentals on data management and data analytics, at ULB and UPC. ULB semester introduces to basic concepts and this semester aims at homogenizing the inherent heterogeneous students’ background, while UPC semester builds on top of that and deepens on fundamental concepts. Then, student participate in the summer school organised by one of the main or associated partners, which introduces students to emerging perspectives in these domains. Students choose for the third semester a specialisation at one of the three other main partners, namely, “Knowledge-Driven Data Management and Intelligence” at TUW, “Business, Economics, and Financial Data Science” at UniPD, and “Data and Intelligence for Heterogeneous Systems” at UCBL. Finally, in the fourth semester students carry out the master’s thesis at any of the main or associated partners. Given the variety of associated partners, through their master’s thesis students can choose among a wide range of future career perspectives, from start-up creation, through consultancy and R&D in industry, to academic research and continuation in a doctoral programme. The master’s thesis is defended at the final joint event organised by one main partner, and followed by the graduation ceremony.
