Estimation of low flow characteristics for catchments of hydropower plants
01.08.2004 - 30.12.2005
Assigned research project
The hydroelectric power board of Austrian currently examines the potential impact of the Water Framework Directive on the production of hydropower plants in Austria. A key input to these analyses are accurate estimates of low flow characteristics (environmental flows) for each of the plants. In this project these low flow characteristics are estimated for 280 plants in Austria. The method is based on a combination of two approaches. The first is a statistical regionalisation of low flow quantities based on streamflow data. The second approach consists of dynamic water balance modelling at a daily time scale.
