Materials for 3D-Structuring by Two Photon Absorption
01.02.2005 - 31.01.2009
Research funding project
Structuring by two-photon absorption (TPA) allows the fabrication of complex 3D parts for applications in MEMS/NENS (micro- (nano) electromechanical systems) targeted by ISOTEC with a resolution on the nanometer-scale. In this research project, three tasks regarding materials for TPA will be targeted: Tpaini will deliver new photinitiators tailored for the specific demands of TPA. These photoinititors are based on a new class of triple bond containing initiators which proved to exhibit excellent TPA initiating activity. Appropriate TPA initiators based on radical, cationic, photo-Fries and photograft systems, will greatly increase the write-speed of TPA systems, thus enhancing the productivity of industrial processes relying on TPA. The aim of sub-project Biomat is to fabricate miniature-scaffolds for biomedical applications. The goal is to develop novel biocompatible and biodegradeable photopolymers based on gelatine. These photopolymers serve as basis for fabricating three dimensional scaffolds with a feature resultion from micrometer to the nanometer scale. Optomat focuses on the development of optical waveguides for printed circuit boards. Currently, there is a lack of materials for refractive index patterning which, besides their optical properties, also exhibit certain mechanical properties that allow the fabrication of flexible optical waveguides. For this sub-project, TPA will be used for 3D refractive index patterning, e.g. by a Photo-Fries reaction of photosensitive silicone based polymers. The developed materials will be of great benfit for several research projects of the RPC (Strucmeth, Tpainteg, Sensmat, Sensphys).
