Mechanics of knee ligaments - From material modeling to determination of loading during joint movement

Research funding project
This research project is devoted to the determination of ligament behavior from the properties of the building units (collagen fibres and ground substance) and their geometrical arrangement. The anticipated material model will be used for the computation of ligament loading in the course of controlled and uncontrolled (miss-steps, sports accidents) knee movements. The assessment of the risk on ligament injuries caused by such movements represents the central goal of this research project.
