Operation of the bio-geophysical variables systematic monitoring of the Global Land Component of the Copernicus Land Service - Lot 1

01.05.2021 - 30.04.2023
Auftragsforschungsprojekt

The Copernicus program provides reliable and up-to-date information on how our planet and its climate are changing to help decision makers, businesses and citizens to define environmental policies and take right actions. The Copernicus Land Service continuously monitors the status of land territories and generates accurate and cross-border harmonized geo-information at global to local scales. The Copernicus Global Land service is earmarked as a component of the Copernicus Land service and is operational since January 2013, providing a series of bio-geophysical products describing the status and the evolution of the land surface at global scale.

Built on the Copernicus Global Land Operations service (CGLOPS Lot 1 2020-2021), this proposal intends:

1. to sustain the timely production, right from the start, the re-processing, and the archive of the current Global Land Service bio-geophysical variables portfolio.

2. to introduce new requested global bio-geophysical variables derived from low to medium satellite sensor data;

3. to ensure the continuity, consistency and the ramp-up of the nominal service during the requested framework period of two years

4. to monitor the service and product quality, including their scientific soundness and consistency between variables.

5. to highlight possible scenarios for porting legacy product algorithms to an open source and cloud-native implementation
