E3-Modelling together with a consortium of renowned institutions – including TU Wien - all with a long-standing record in modelling of EU energy and climate policies has offered its services to the European Commission, DG Energy in response to the call “Extension of the EU energy and climate modelling capacity to include the Energy Community and its nine Contracting Parties”.
To be able to offer a full energy system and GHG emission tool covering all aspects of climate policy including energy and process CO2, non-CO2 greenhouse gases and LULUCF, as well as to ensure best quality of data collected specifically for the Energy Community Contracting Parties and the most recent policy analysis experience for energy and climate in these countries, the partners have agreed to establish cooperation with complementary roles and expertise. The consortium offers a fully functional and interlinked modelling suite, high quality data very recently updated with consultation with the country official delegates and deep understanding of the EU policy landscape, which can be expanded to the countries of the Energy Community, where this is not yet the case.
TU Wien’s role within the project is focussed on delivering a high-quality database on energy demand and supply in the Energy Community, serving as input for the subsequent model-based analyses. More precisely, it brings in its databases on the buildings sectors and renewables as well as expertise in performing studies on renewables, emissions and efficiency targets, among others, also in the context of the target study for the Energy Community secretariat.
