S1S2Crops will assess the feasibility to develop a crop mask based on S1, S2 and weather data from France, Netherlands, Sweden, and Austria that allows distinguishing barley from wheat at the highest quality. Crop fields from different climates and countries will be identified using the available Land Parcel Identification System data and used to train and test different machine learning methods. A first accuracy assessment of the methods will be done. The project outcome shall be discussed with different identified stakeholders in order to identify potential new funding possibilities and business models with stakeholders who have issued a Letter of Interest. TU Wien will also look into future scientific use of the project outcome and future funding possibilities to bring crop classification forward within the research group.
