Global Gravity-based Groundwater Product

01.01.2020 - 31.12.2022
Research funding project

The project aims at integrating the Essential Climate Variable (ECV) Groundwater as a new product into the Copernicus Services. To this end, we develop a unique Earth observation product by combining and evolving operational products of different Copernicus services and of data from latest space technology in orbit. Given the enormous relevance of groundwater for securing sustainable water supply, we thus stimulate new application opportunities in the water sector with benefit for society and enhance application areas for European space infrastructure by considering global Earth gravity observations including innovative Laser Ranging Interferometer data.
