The exchange of energy or the provision of energy contingents across company borders can be economically viable but is currently hindered by technical, legal and organizational issues. The EU-winter-package, which will most likely come into effect in autumn 2018, brings a new legal framework for the formation and operation of energy communities. The exchange of renewable energy across company borders will be made easier and therefore it is expected that companies are actively seeking for partners for an energy exchange. There are, however, new questions arising for those energy communities:
- Which companies fit best to form an energy community?
- Who is going to coordinate the production/transmission and storage of energy in thecommunity?
- What are the (economical) benefits of such a community?
