SG instrumentation subject for use by IAEA safeguards is frequently used or installed in environments with elevated radiation fields. In order to verify that such equipment performs reliably under such conditions it has to be tested and qualified under realistic radiation conditions. The testing includes but is not limited to exposure of the surveillance equipment to neutron and gamma radiation of a wide range of flux and spectrum, typically only achievable in a nuclear reactor. However, test plans may also include setups that use isotopic neutron and gamma sources for technical and/or logistical reasons.
