For efficient mapping and documentation of new underground cables it would be an advantage to determine the position and depth of the trenches automatically with an accuracy of 0.5 meters while excavating. Within this project the feasibility of accomplishing this task using two GNSS receivers mounted on the excavator will be investigated. The study will focus on the required components of a measurement system which can eventually be realized as plug-and-play system, and on the data analysis algorithms used to derive the position and depth of the trench from the trajectory of the GNSS antennas.
