Vera Bühlmann ist Professorin für Architekturtheorie an der Technischen Universität Wien, Österreich, wo sie den Forschungsbereich Architekturtheorie und Technikphilosophie ATTP leitet. Zu ihren spezifischen Interessen gehört Architektonik, das Kodifizieren künstlerischer Praktiken durch mathematisches Denken, Coding- und Quantum Literacy, Ästhetik in der Optik des Neuen Materialismus, sowie die Rolle von Rhetorik und einer "literarischen Vernunft" für einen neuen, nicht-anthropozentrischen Humanismus.

Vera Bühlmann ist 1974 in der Schweiz geboren, und hat Englische Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaft, Philosophie und Medienwissenschaft an den Universitäten Zürich und Basel (CH) studiert. 2009 hat sie ihre Dissertation Inhabiting Media, Annäherungen an Herkünfte und Topoi medialer Architektonik an der Philosophischen Fakultät der Universität Basel mit Auszeichnung (Summa Cum Laude) abgeschlossen. 2010 hat sie das Laboratory for Applied Virtuality am Lehrstuhl für Digitale Architektonik, Departement Architektur der ETH Zurich, mit gegründet (mit Prof. Dr. Ludger Hovestadt) und seit 2012 ist sie Mit-Herausgeberin der Applied Virtuality Buchreihe bei Birkhäuser/deGruyter. Die Buchreihe beschäftigt sich mit der Digitalisierung in einem "liberal arts approach", der mathematisches Denken mit der humanistischen Tradition der Studien (studies) verbindet. Ihre jüngste Monographie Mathematics and Information in the Philosophy of Michel Serres ist in der Material Futures Series, herausgegeben von David Webb und Joanna Hodges bei Bloomsbury Academic 2020 erschienen. 2021 wurde sie zum Mitglied des Hochschulrates der Universität der Künste Berlin gewählt.

Vera Bühlmann is professor for architecture theory at Technische Universität Wien TU, Austria, where she directs the Research Unit Architecture Theory and Philosophy of Technics (ATTP). Among her special fields of interest are the codification of artistic practices through mathematical thinking, digital architectonics, quantum literacy, and aesthetics in a new materialist optics, as well as the role of rhetorics and literary reason for a novel and non-anthropocentric humanism.

Born in 1974 in Switzerland, Vera Bühlmann studied English Literature and Language, Philosophy, and Media Studies at Zurich University and Basel University. She earned her PhD Inhabiting Media, Annäherungen an Herkünfte und Topoi medialer Architektonik with distinction (Summa Cum Laude) from Basel University in 2009. In 2010 she co-founded the Laboratory for Applied Virtuality at the Chair for Digital Architectonics in the Department for Architecture, ETH Zurich (together with Ludger Hovestadt) and since 2012 she is co-editor of the Applied Virtuality Book Series with Birkhäuser/de Gruyter, a book series which attends to the current societal challenges brought by digitalisation through a Liberal Arts approach that combines mathematical thinking with humanistic studies. Her last monograph Mathematics and Information in the Philosophy of Michel Serres is published in the Materialist Futures Series, edited by David Webb and Joanna Hodges, Bloomsbury Academic, 2020. Since 2021 she is an elected member of the University Council (Hochschulrat) of Berlin University of the Arts UdK.
