Research profile (German):

Oberflächenphysik: Die ersten Atomlagen von Festkörpern. Erforschung grundlegender Zusammenhänge mithilfe experimenteller Methoden, insbesondere der Rastertunnel- und Rasterkraftmikroskopie. Zusätzlich spektroskopische Messungen basierend auf Photonen, Elektronen und Ionen. Diffraktion. Hauptschwerpunkt sind oxidische Materialien (zB TiO2, ZrO2, Fe3O4, In2O3, SnO2, ZnO, SrTiO3). Herstellung von - meist ultradünnen - epitaktischen Schichten mithilfe der Molelukarstrahlepitaxie (MBE) und pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD).

Research profile (English):

Surface physics: the first few atomic layers of solids. Investigations of fundamental properties with experimental methods, in particular with scanning tunneling microscopy and scanning force microscopy. Application of spectroscopic surface techniques employing photons, electrons, and ions. Surface diffraction. Synthesis of (mostly ultra thin) oxide films with molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) and pulsed laser deposition.
